New Food City in Piney Flats / new Food Country in Bristol
First of all - WOW, I cannot believe how fast the new Food City store in Piney Flats went up. I have not been by there lately, but my folks said its was up and lights in the lot, etc. I did not even know they had started on it.
ALSO, the new Food Country Super store in southwest Bristol is open and booming from what I have heard. WOW, a Wal-Mart super center, Food City (Blountville) and now this Food Country within 4 miles of each other!

The Food Country on 394 is SHARP! Not at all like their other stores. I'd call it more Blountville than Bristol though.
I'm going to try Earth Fare next week. Hope it is up to expectations.

what is aearth fare?
Why all the growth in Bristol?
Someone said here nothing was happening in Bristol - it's a quiet little town..lol Any organic grocers? Or large health food sections in the grocery mentioned?
Thanks. I am used to a bigger city and their services..always a tradeoff - live cheap in a place like Bristol you give up a lot too..thanks

I've been to EF twice, and I'm very impressed. A little pricey but worth it to me. Employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful - I didn't think that was possible for Tri-Cities retail. They had multiple selections of Quinoa and Stevia! The fish and meat market is exceptional - had fresh golden trout and snapper. I also had to try some gellato and sorbeto, gluten free pizza crusts, and the exquisite olive bar.
This place really has its act together. Both of my trips I've come at 7pm and I didn't have to wait in line either time - parking hasn't been bad either.

Johnson City Officials Say Annexation Criticism Off Base | TriCities
By Mac McLean
Reporter / Bristol Herald Courier
Published: November 19, 2008
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – City officials said their recent annexation of the Piney Flats Food City is their way of making good on investments the city made almost 10 years ago.
“[The annexation has] been planned and contemplated for more than a decade,” Johnson City Manager Pete Peterson said Tuesday. “The city has made quite an expensive investment of infrastructure in that part of Sullivan County.”
Johnson City adopted the annexation ordinance Oct. 2; the annexation was effective Nov. 2.
Wow, Johnson City has some long arms.

Sounds good to me. Lots of benefits come from being inside JC's boundaries. But yeah, the city is pretty sprawled out. The western terminus is at Jonesborough near the junkyard... takes a long time to get up to Piney Flats from there!

Thats because that person has probably not been in the "busy/booming" areas of Bristol.
Exit 7 I-81 in Bristol Virginia is like a city in itself. Often bumper to bumper traffic, especially on weekend evenings.

I find driving in Bristol to be scary as hell. Unlike in Johnson City, where people drive like mad (either way too slow or way too fast) on GOOD infrastructure, Bristolians drive like mad on horribly outdated infrastructure. The two busy areas of town, that is, downtown and Exit 7, are both situated on mostly two lane ancient systems. And yeah, there is incredible traffic around Exit 7. Glad I don't have to navigate that, ever!

Earth Fare is entirely organic/health food. No fructose, hormones, chemicals, etc. It is located near ETSU in JC.
