I doubt any restaurants in the TRI have teppanyaki. You could inquire at Wok & Hibachi, I think that they would offer, if anyone...

Teppan Yaki
Uh-oh, my California is showing.......didn't realize it wasn't U.S. wide.
Teppan Yaki is a style of Japanese cooking where in the restaurant you sit around a common U shaped table with other restaurant patrons, in front of a cook who has a flat stainless steel grill in front of him.
He or I guess she then cooks the food right in front of you, teppan yaki style on the grill. Stirred fried would be a good comparison I guess, except there's no WOK to cook in.
Have you ever heard of a Benni Hana restaurant? It's like that.
They cook, veggies, rice and meat like chicken, beef, shrimp lobster with HOT temps so it cooks very fast.
Hope that explanation helps!!!

AH! Benni Hana's! Yep heard of that.....but no, I can't think of any place like that around here but I think there is one similar in Asheville. Darned if I can recall the name right now...anyone else?
I used to eat at Wok and Hibachi all the time when I worked over that way, was over 4 years ago, but can't recall them doing that, did they add a flat grill out front jab?

How are utility prices in the area? Electric, gas, heating fuel etc. What do most use for heat and cooling? Gas of course is going to be cheaper for us, compared to Calif. just because of the taxes we have to pay.

Thanks we will have to check out the Wok and Hibachi when we're there. We may make it to Asheville too if time permits. Guess we'll have to get a Teppan Yaki restaurant in the area for you locals to experience.

Maybe, but we're doing just fine without one, too.
That's not exactly the teppanyaki I'm familiar with. I just did some reading and found out what the American version is. Oh, okay! You can find that at Wasabi in Knoxville (off Lovell Road) and I *think* at the Diamond House in Greeneville on the 11E. Not sure if anywhere in Johnson City or Kingsport is a Japanese steakhouse-style, someone else might know.
Not sure where you're talking about in Asheville, mouse. I don't get over that way all that much, just a few times a year. Is there a Wasabi there too?

Thanks. Guess we can just make a drive to one of those places if we get a crav ing for it. That's good enough.
Thanks for all your help. I'll be back tomorrow I'm sure with new questions. You are so helpful.

Kobe Japanese Steakhouse
1131 Old Airport Rd, Bristol
Kobe is the best Japanese in the TriCities and the only one that I know cooks in front of you.
I think Misaki in JC does too, but I've never been there.
There are about 6 Japanese restaurants in JC. While they have good food, there is no "show".
