Josh: What a nice surprise to wake up and see you made it safely and all these beautiful pics! The one of Holston Lake is really nice - almost looks southwestern. We'll all look forward to hearing about your journeys over the next few days - drive safely!!!

Thanks for posting your photos; very nice job! It's amazing that the photos look like they could've been taken up here ( Wayne county in NE PA) as the two areas look so similar. The only difference is that it looked like that here 2-3 weeks ago; all of our leaves have fallen and are bare now That's a big part of why I like NE TN and am still looking for property there. It's just too cold up here and winters are too long ( winter lasts 6 months and the other three seasons are each about 2 months long)

Thanks everyone! I'm probably going to hit up Grandfather mountain today. I will be taking 421 probably.

Gorgeous Pictures! This board has some very talented photographers on it.
Y'all do more to attract interest in this area, than the local Chamber of Commerce.

I used to take WCYB-TV Channel 5's "Mini-Cam" out in the 70's and 80's and tape various scenery around the area and put that footage to music. WCYB ran these videos as fillers between programs, and you would not believe the comments we got from viewers, who could pick up Channel 5 outside our normal viewing area, on how beautiful East Tennessee is. We even got a letter from Cuba commenting on how beautiful East Tennessee is. He picked up Channel 5 in Cuba during our 1:00pm newscast when we aired one of the videos. The videos always ended with "Thank You for Watching Channel 5" and listed our call letters and location. Sometimes, due to atmospheric conditions, our TV signal would be "ducted" between a layer of hot and cold air and would travel thousands of miles. Other times, it would bounce off the ionosphere (much like shortwave radio) and would appear on someone's TV thousands of miles away.

One of our sales reps wanted to go out into very remote areas and videotape old abandoned churches and houses. I mentioned "Mini-Cam" above because the camera weight 25 pounds, and I had to carry a large tape deck, which weighed 30 pounds. It wasn't fun walking through weeds and stepping in cow "you-know-what" to get to these places the guy wanted me to tape.

And, now there are High Definition Cameras which fit in your hand producing video quality much superior than what I was using in the late 70's and early 80's.

Keep posting the pictures, I love them!

Thanks,

Buzz

Glad you like em buzz!

Change of plans here, I'm heading to Bays Mountain in KP today.

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and cool so I'm going to head to Grand Father Mountain. It is supposed to take me 2 hours to drive 65 miles. Those must be some curvy highways.

You will love Bays Mountain! It is a little hike, but there is an observation deck you can climb on and it will give you great views of the surrounding valley. Hope you enjoy your day, and promise to post more pictures.

Here is a web page I created with web cams around the Tri-City Area. If you scroll down the page, you will see one camera called the Timber Wolf Cam. There is an enclosed area with wolves in it on Bays Mountain, you may want to get some photos of.

Buzz's Tri-Cities Weather Radar and Webcams Page

By the way, I am in Nashville, but originally from the Tri-City area.

Have a great day!

Beautiful photos! I am not too far from that Rooty Branch Road and know the area well. Mu aunt/uncle actually have a house for sale on that road (no view of the mountain though, as they have woods on that side of the house. They lived there from 1990-2007. They bought a farm house in Piney Flats, which is why they are selling it.
