Boy, that website sure paints a pretty bleak picture. Not all of us around here are Bible thumpers, and very few are the brainrot fundamentalists in the vein of Falwell, Robertson etc.
Still, this area is very conservative. Probably one of the most conservative in the nation. You must be fine with, at times, keeping your views under your hat if they don't jive with the majority, or else being able to take the flack. Many people here view other mindsets (any kind of liberalism, Socialism, other isms ) as signs of being mentally unstable, possessed by Satan, anti-American or anti-"God."
What's worse is that they won't confront you about this to your face. They'll run around and talk behind your back. No one here is interested in intellectual discussion about beliefs, they just want to CONVERT you.
So for that reason, I mostly leave people alone here. (Yeah, I'm native to the NETN region.) You can easily find like-minded people if you move in the right circles, and in Johnson City proper there are lots of different-minded and alternative-lifestyle (I hate that term, but, whatever) people. I say the closer you can live to Johnson City, the better.
But please, I would say don't consider moving here before spending a week or two at a hotel in town. Engage people in conversation and see how you like it. Maybe it's your paradise!

My honest opinion on a mixed race couple moving to JC: Mixed race couples will be embraced by more than a few, tolerated by most, ignored by some and hated by very, very few. Kind of like the rest of us white, old, young, fat, ugly, other ethnicities, etc. people.

It is what some believe is a true picture. It is not what I believe to be a true picture. There are a lot of different people around here with some different viewpoints.

I think Lewis Loflin has a lot of good ideas and correct viewpoints, but dwelling on this kind of stuff paints an unnecessarily bleak and/or scary picture of what living in NETN is like.

Wow, just wow!
Good thing I didn't read that before I moved up here.
Y'all are just stuck with me anyhow, too expensive to move back now, LOL!
That guy sure has an "interesting" slant on things.

I am looking for a seasonal home where there is no snow or subzero temperatures and not too much Summer humidity. Looking for a place to bring a couple of horses and public trails, plus a local store or restaurant within 15 - 20 minutes, and good access roads as we drive a very large rig. Thought the Tennessee Valley would fit the criteria as real estate there seems cheap (also a criteria). Any opinions, suggestions of areas to consider or NOT consider?

We do get snow, sometimes subzero temperatures and a lot of humidity in the summer. Have you considered Texas?

There is no Tennessee location that matches your climate criteria. You are probably limited to extreme South Texas and southenmost Arizona and California.

It is extremely humid here throughout the summer, even here in the northeast.

I wouldn't say sub zero very often but it does happen and get cold here. About 15 degrees out now.
