Default info needed for area in Unicoi County

Does any one have information on this area? Near Big Bald Mountain 5,516 feet above sea level. Unicoi County, Tennessee at Flag Pond, 1.75 miles off I-26 exit #50.

Beautiful area, very mountainous, remote. 30 min to Asheville and Johnson City in opposite directions via interstate 26.

Don't know much more.

Yep, very remote and mountainous. This is one of the most deserted places in the Tri-Cities region that is still easily accessible via a main arterial connection. A huge plus is that you're pretty darn close to Asheville which has more shopping and entertainment options than Johnson City.

what kind of info do you need? Do you need to be close to anything- medical, university? If so, Flag Pond is about as far away as you can get around here.

I was thinking of buying some property here for a vacation home. I love that it is so close to Asheville and Johnson city. However, it seems like it might be hard to get to especially when there is snow. How far is it to the nearest hospital?
Do you have any suggestions on property in the area?

Maybe if you gave us a bit more info on just what you are looking for in a vacation home town/area we can suggest some areas? Have you looked into the Watauga lake area?

I was looking for a place with at least 10 acres, mountain views, a small creek, close to one of the bigger cities (30-40 minutes) for access to shopping, restaurants, libraries, etc, not in a development (I'm not into a planned community or golf). I am married with two boys ages 11 and 12 so I want a place they can run around on now and keep coming to for years when they are older, I'd like to be close to an area with snow sports in the winter and lake activities in the summer. We will build a house or cabin. I am a teacher so I will spend the whole summer there and we will retire there in about 10 years.
I know this sounds like a lot but I think if I am patient I will find something I will fall in love with! I am planning a trip in December so if anyone has suggestions I'd appreciate it!

Erwin has a small hospital w/ 48 acute-care beds. It's about 14 miles from Flag Pond. The nearest large hospital is Johnson City Medical Center (31 miles).

I would defiantly look into Watauga Lake area then. The towns would be Hampton and or Mountain City. The closest town with a Wal-Mart and Hospital would be Elizabethton. However, those little towns have some cute little shops and stores for the basics. It is a short drive from these towns to Boone NC where you would have the typical snow activities (ski slopes, snow boarding etc.) and there are some beautiful mountain views.
