Need to ask where the best place in East Tennessee is to live that has fishing/biking available, small town, close to a University medical Center and Super Walmart, and Christmas Celebration--we don't need much. Would love a conservative/religious area--as we are Christians and and wish to relax and enjoy GOD"s handiwork!!!

Bluegrass festivals would be nice to

Thank you and GOD BLESS

Sounds like Washington County TN to me. (JC, Jonesborough, Elizabethton, or Erwin)

Try Elizabethton. Smaller town and very close to great hiking and fishing. Do you need jobs? For hiking try the Creeper Trail in Damascus Va.

I would suggest Jonesborough, sounds a bit more like it would fit all your needs. ETSU has a medical teaching program through Johnson City Medical Center (JC hospital) and it is only 5 miles or so up the road. There are walking/biking trails at the Willow Springs park just up Walnut St. Lots of woods and such for hiking in South Jonesborough. Several creeks and rivers for fishing.
Lots of Christmas and Bluegrass celebrations all over the Tri-Cities area but Jonesborough really goes all out at Christmas time.

Plus there's Music on the Square (usually bluegrass, sometimes not) in the J-borough.

You might find Johnson City too big (or not, coming from Tampa). If so, agreed - look around at satellite towns like Jonesborough, Elizabethton, Lamar/Cherokee, Erwin/Unicoi. The Gray area is nice too but it's less "town" and more "very big stop in the road."

As far as walking/hiking, you may want to try some of the smaller areas (Jonesborough and Erwin are VERY NICE towns).

They both offer festivals, jazz, bluegrass, storytelling, ect. Hiking/Biking available.

Elizabethton will help you with some of that as well.

Johnson City is our major medical hub and Erwin, Jonesborough and Elizabethton place you about 15-20 minutes away (MAX) from that hospital.

The Blue Plum Festival, Apple Festival, Rhododendrum Festival, Story Telling Festival and Bluegrass Rythm & Roots are all within 20-25 minutes of each other depending on location. You won't be disappointed with the area.

I agree about Elizabethton. They have a covered bridge festival every year. Sycamore Shoals has a nice walking trail, and the Appalachian Trail is not far. It's an easy drive to Johnson City with ETSU and the medical center. You couldn't ask for more natural beauty- Roan Mountain, Watauga Dam, etc. God's handiwork is definitely evident there. (Yes, I'm from PA but visit the area twice a year X 16 years, so I know the area fairly well).
