Last month we travelled to Bristol for the NASCAR race, leaving cold Illinois, going through Indiana, we were going into Kentucky and it was absolutely beautiful, turning green and all the trees were blooming. It was like going to a different country. Those trees are my favorite, I stopped last year while driving through TN and took pictures of them when they were not in bloom and even stopped and took a few leaves so when I got home I could try to find them to plant them in my yard...
I think I found them and now have at least 3 new trees planted. They are not in bloom yet as it is still cold in western Illinois...thank you for all the pictures it confirmed my thoughts!!!

Perhaps the people who have been sharing the great pictures of Kingsport could upload them to this website so they could be seen along with the others, but without weeding through comments to get to them? http://www.city-data.com/album/album...Tennessee.html

Default Road to Boone from Tri-Cites and the Blue Ridge Parkway

Hubby needed to get out of the house today and do something that did not require a lot of waking (knee injury) so we took a drive. I had never been to Boone and Blowing Rock NC so we started from about the middle of the Tri-Cites, through Elizabethton, up to Hampton then on to Boone and Blowing Rock. After that we hopped on the Blue Ridge Parkway and circled back around to Spruce Pine and back down from Roan Mountain. We were hoping to see a lot of the signs of spring, however, the higher we climbed, the less we saw, everything up there is pretty much still brown.
It was however a very nice, enjoyable drive and only used up a half a tank of gas so it is all good. Most of these pics are from the TN side, but a few from the Parkway as well. I am not near as good of a photographer as the others here on CD that share pictures, but I did have fun taking them, I hope you enjoy them too

I believe this is a dogwood popping through on the side of a mountain.

Kiwishmiwi and mbmouse, thanks a million for the terrific photos! I can't remember the last time I was in Blowing Rock, will have to head over that way soon to explore a bit.
