Default Utility Costs in Elizabethton

My wife and I are hoping to retire to Elizabethton in a few years, and we will be living on a fixed income of about $40,000-$45,000 per year. Can anyone give us a general idea of the electric and heating costs during the winter months? Also, any info. about the hospital there would be appreciated as well. Thank you.

Hello!
Our address is Johnson City, but we actually live closer to Elizabethton and our utilities come from there. We have a 1300 sq ft. house and our electric bill runs about $200-250 or so in the winter. I will say that our house needs new windows/door and new insulation in the crawl space. So once that is done, I anticipate it to go down. We have all electric heat, so no gas bills. Our water bill runs about $30 or so a month year round.
As far as hospital goes, there is a small one in Elizabethton. Sycamore Shoals. It is fine for minor things, my son has been to the ER there several times for asthma and we've always had good care. For more major episodes, surgeries, etc... the bigger hospital is in Johnson City. It's only about a 15 minute drive from Elizabethton.
Hope that helps!

Elizabethton Utilities just went up 30% on their bill, but the typical new construction 1,300 sq.ft house would be around 135.00 per month with the increase during the winter. You should expect to pay around 75.00 during the summer months....probably 100.00 per month average would be a good number.

Wife said that on the news last night there was a report that the electric company had to an officer at their location due to violent reactions to the new electric rates that are in effect, bills are up significantly, I thought part of the justification for the rate hike was increased fuel costs. Now that fuel costs are 50% less than last summer, will they be lowering the rate......guess not, worth a thought. Having security is a bit over the top though, and if people are really mad about this, I don't want to see what's going to happen when we all get the tax bill for bailing out the bankers bad bets.

p.s. If they are mad about this, wait until we get the tax bill for bailing out the banks

No kidding...geesh..

Regarding the electric bill: There was a similar occurence where I live a year or two back. An older gentleman(actually he wasn't so gentle) raised heck harassing the ladies at the electric place and I *heard* it turned physical. So much for social grace...

Does anyone use natural gas for thier heating in the tri-cities area. In Wyoming we are use to Nat. Gas which is very efficient. I have seen a few places on Realtor.com that use heating oil. Our 2400 sq ft home in Wyoming, where it is considerably colder, runs about $200. a month or less. Any body have a comparison?

I dont know, but our latest electric bill was at at record high.... $640.00 !!!!!

However, this includes lights, internet, cable, phone and we have our fairly new installed central heat/air financed through the power company, but its never, never been nowhere near this high. I think it was because of that wretched cold spell we had when it was in the single digits for lows... our heat was running on MAX mode for hours and hours. Of course that bill could reflect that this has been one of the coldest winters we have had in a very long time.
