Insurance?
I am in Johnson City (transplanted from Canada) and am wondering where is the best place to get insurance. I am looking for both car insurance, and tenant's(rental) insurance.
Thanks, Jason

Are you looking for the cheapest available? Or best reputation? Do you require a local representative?

TN car insurance isn't cheap. One car, one driver - went from $79 in VA to $140 in TN - that was Nationwide (driver had been with them for 14 years, not one accident). Went to Geico and paying $122 (full coverage). Geico does their renter's via Liberty Mutual (I think?) but it was $14.70 a month to insure our one bedroom apartment.
Best think to do, check all the companies, Geico, Nationwide, Allstate.. and maybe some local places? And compare rates. They will have online calculators, which makes it much easier.

Esurance or Progressive are the cheapest for auto, although my sister found Guide One to be able to beat them. The first to you can find online; guide one you will have to google.
Farmers Insurance really kicked everyone's butt for my condo, but they were much higher on auto. I DMed my agent.

My family's agency is Watauga Insurance. They are local in Johnson City and they have always done a great job. You won't find better people. We have our autos, home, and my small contracting business insured there.

I agree with you on the Car Insurance not being cheap here in TN. We moved from California and ours went up $100 a month. And we have never been in an accident and have no tickets. I would shop around for sure.

I did check with Esurance and it looks like our bill would drop about $400 a year for essentially the same coverage. They do require a down payment, though. Not too bad since the down payment (I believe this covers the first two months) was only $30 more than our Geico monthly payment. Then you have four monthly payments after you pay the down.
Figured I'd share - we didn't get a quote this low at any major company.

Bailey, be very careful with esurance. Read your quote and make sure it has all the things you need. We had esurance and I have nothing bad to say about them. But, when I was filling out the profile for esurance and clicked the box for rental car coverage, when they processed our quote at the end they said they could save us $60 more. What they did was unclick the rental car coverage. We didn't know it. Yay, we saved $60 bucks! Okay, fast forward, a lady hits us from the rear -- we think no problem, we got rental car coverage. NOT. So, just make sure when you are filling out their online app., everything you picked stays the same and none of the boxes get unchecked at the end.
They settled our claim really fast and recouped our deductible even. The collision shop they sent us to was really good. They were great otherwise!
