Default Meeting new people...

Hey everyone. I have been here now in JC for about two weeks. I have done some looking online for maybe some volunteer stuff etc. I am a single female. So was trying to figure out some ways to meet some new people. Anyone been in my situation? How did you meet new people? Any suggestions? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Join any clubs/associations/groups that meet regularly in the area. Whatever hobbies or interests or even work-related after hours functions you may have.

Join an exercise group @ a gym, a book club, a nature hikers club, football league, volunteer at your community, civic, or social center--whatever floats your boat. There are TONS of options. Just get involved, that's key!

There are some pretty good options to meet people.

Bailey's is a major hangout on Tennessee sports nights, NFL games and most weekends. It is pretty upbeat.

Stir-Fry Cafe has a good clientale of people in their mid 20's - early 40's. They have events on the weekend and a popular half-price sushi on Wednesdays.

The Lifestyle Center in Johnson City has several group activities. ETSU has basketball games and other sporting events. META (Mountain Empire Tennis Association) is good if you like tennis, there are also, hiking, biking, running, bird watching clubs, ect.

The Johnson City Parks and Recreation can help you.

Area clubs are sometimes not what you might be looking for, but the Electric Cowboy seems to be the most popular, perhaps Second Level as well.

Yeah... most of the clubs are definitely for a younger set and the Electric Cowboy caters to a... how do I say it?.... white trash?.... clientele.... at least IMHO!

To be honest, where I meet most people is at school and work. You could always take some classes at ETSU. A lot of people have social lives through their churches too, so that depends on if you're interested in a place of worship or not.

Oh - as far as volunteering goes - local animal hospitals / clinics, and Mountain Home (the Veterans Affairs campus) always needs volunteers, so I hear. Also the public library. You might want to drop by volunteermatch.org as they've helped me out before. The Tennessee Equality Project has a local affiliation, if that would be to your persuasion.

volunteer stuff ... check out http://www.casanetn.org Court Appointed Special Advocates Program of Northeast Tennessee. CASA of Northeast Tennessee is always looking for people for advocates or fundraisers. Can't guarantee you'll be meeting tons of people but we'll keep you as busy as you're willing to be!
