Default Asthma?

Just wondering if anyone else has moved to this area and found out they had asthma? Or reacted really bad to the dry cold air? I recently just moved here almost 3 weeks now. And I had to go to urgent care because I literally got exercise induced asthma from working out inside my house! It was just so dry in my house even with the humidifier it still seems so dry. I never had this problem back down in Louisiana. Almost making me want to move back if I can't breathe here!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Hmmm, no idea. Of course I've lived in this sort of climate my entire life, so it must be that I'm acclimated. You've only been here three weeks; maybe (hopefully!) the situation will get better?

The humidity goes WAY up in the summer.

renee25,
It is typical for people with breathing problems to have more trouble in the dry, cold air. I usually try to keep the humidity in my house around 40%, but with this latest cold weather my humidifier is having trouble maintaining 34%. If you don't have a way of measuring the humidity in your house I suggest you buy anything that can give you an idea. Even a cheap device will do to give you a rough idea. I am evaporating about 10 gals a day right now just to maintain 34%.
Secondly I did a comparison on the air quality in the Tri-City area using Philadelphia PA as the comparative.
I found that Philadelphia had exactly the same rating as the Tri-City and that wasn't good. This area is also one of the worst for allergies.
I have been here almost a year now and since coming here I have had a low grade headache almost everyday. I also have to take my allergy meds all year and have increased the dosage.
Don

Hello,
I personally do not have asthma so not sure if this will be helpful to you or not, just thought I would share in the hopes it might. I have lived here in N.E. TN for about 12 years now, that is after two other states on the East Coast, never any allergies or air issues, well except FL, witch was just so muggy it made me very tired and sluggish all the time. I just got back to my first ever trip to the West coast, CA. I stepped off the plane in Fresno and immediately my sinuses went haywire! I was stuffed up and miserable for the entire 9 days I was there and just now starting to breath normally again today. I had never experienced any issues like this before. After talking with some of the people in the CA central valley area, they said they had to do what my Dad did when he moved here as he did have some new allergy problems. They were told to eat a spoon full of local honey (local, not typical grocery store honey) once a day for a few weeks and they no longer had the breathing/allergy issues. I know it worked for my Dad, but that was allergy, not asthma, but maybe you could ask your Dr? From putting together my trip across country and my Dads allergy issues here, all happening when first getting there, it may be an acclimation of the immune system to new locality? Like I said, just a thought.
