Which reminds me that the deepest snow I ever saw around here was in the second week of March, 1960. The most recent significant snowstorm in the Tri-Cities occurred in January, 1998. It was a heavy, wet snow that caused more utility outages than either of the aforementioned storms. It was immediately followed by unseasonally warm temperatures and heavy rains that caused a rapid snow melt in the higher mountains and resulted in severe and tragic flooding.

Remember the awful flooding in 2001? I don't know how it affected the Tri-Cities, as I was living in Greeneville at the time, but I'm betting at least Erwin was affected, as the Nolichuckey River was positively brimming. Whole roads were closed off, huge bridges and culvers, and houses, were demolished. My grandparents had ten feet of water in their basement.

Yes it was!
For work I had to be in several different places throughout downtown Kingsport yesterday. It was so nice to leave the car parked, the heavy coat in the office and walk from place to place!

Have a fun, safe trip!
And I will treat you just like one of my own: BE CAREFUL! Keep your car doors locked, you won't be at home, and be sure to have a map in your car so you don't end up lost.
And be sure to have fun.

It's a great time of the year to be down that way; Accuweather says you'll enjoy highs around 80 and mostly sunny skies through Thursday. Travel safely & have a super time!
