That's interesting are they close to being put on any endangered species list? I'd hate to see snakes go extinct, they do alot for the environment and tend to avoid humans.

You generally don't see snakes out in this area in late October. I see three or four a year while out hiking in the spring and summer, usually black rat & ring-necked snakes...wonderful and harmless critters.

They certainly are harmless little critters. My brother and I use to catch garder snakes and salamanders when we were little. The good ol days. I found a rat snake last fall here in Wisconsin, I bet that sucker was 4' long.
