I kept telling people at the Tgt that funnel clouds had been spotted. But some people were adamant about leaving the building.

Oh well!

ROFL!! Ok, that is a good one.
Somehow I think the car insurance companies would disagree with that.

Dear Friends:
This is quite interesting/alarming. I am quite unfamiliar with tornadoes. I have read that one is twenty times more likely to be killed in a mobilehome as opposed to a "regular" house. Are there any websites providing further information regarding protective measures that one can take? Thanks.

Was watching the news tonight and they said last weeks storms were reminiscent of 1933 when a tornado touched down in Kingsport.
....so hopefully this means we are good for another 76 years???????

I'd say it was more like 2004, when a weak tornado reportedly touched down in the Bloomingdale area of Kingsport (though I don't believe it made it into the record books as an official tornado):
Strong storm damages schools, knocks out power - Memphis- msnbc.com

The tornado that hit Kingsport's Cherry Hill neighborhood in 1933 was an entirely different beast, killing nine while on the ground for at least 35 miles. Earlier in the day, the same system spawned tornadoes that killed at least 26 others in TN. News accounts of the day make for some interesting reading:

Tornadoes in NE Tenn. are one of the last things I'd ever worry about. We've only had three or four touch down since 1980 and to my knowledge, there've been no tornado deaths here at least 70 years. In this area, the odds of your seeing even one tornado in your lifetime, much less being affected by one, are extremely remote.
