Sorry, prefer Pardners to Ridgewood, although the latter is an off-shoot of the former. Cootie Brown's had one of the worst health ratings about five year's ago - hope they've improved on that. Is Cafe Lola really that good?? I walked in, saw creeps screeching into their cell phones, and walked out. it seemed very "new money"-ish, and pretentious. Perhaps it was just the crowd that night...

I'll be looking for a cool bar when I return....ANY options????

Nah, you can't beat Ridgewood with a stick. It is the creme de creme of backwoods natural BBQ. Pardners is good but more domesticated.

Tsumeone is on a distinguished road
Just to follow up:

I finally made it up to JC last week, and man! The pictures just can't do the place justice. It has to be the most beautiful area of the country I've been to hands down. Coming over the mountains from NC to TN was just surreal. I was in a rush so I didn't get to try any of the eateries mentioned here, but...
I'm signing a contract for a house in Gray tomorrow. I lucked out while I was up there and found a foreclosure that was just thrown on the market and wasn't on my list of houses to visit, and fell in love with it. I'll update this thread when I finally move in!

Thanks again for all your help in choosing the right area to move to!

That's great! I hope you enjoy moving here as much as I have. You are correct about the natural beauty and since you can work from home I predict you will be very happy with it. Gray is a good location that will allow you to explore in all directions.

Yes!! Traveling over that high mountain pass from North Carolina into beautiful Tennessee always grabs us and makes us feel we're 'home'.. I just don't think you can beat the beauty of this area --- when combined with the huge difference in real estate prices, it is a moveable (financial) feast, among one of its many other virtues..

One day when you get time, get off I-26 in NC at route 19 and follow it through NC... it's amazing and goes through some of the most awesome little towns, Bakersville, Spruce Pine etc.

I have done that route several times, love it! The best trip though was in the VW bus. Gave new meaning to right lane hugger when there is no right lane...or shoulder. Few times I thought I was going to have to get out and push it up a few of those hills.
