I agree , I wish Downtown would perk up a little more. Anyone heard about First friday ? first friday of every month at nelson art gallery in downtown - new art exhibit opens and they have free wine and snacks . usually a lot of cool people show up and it is really fun.

First Fridays are a national thing. The JC ones are usually pretty good.
I agree, a location near Alley Katz would be just about perfect for the Mushroom, as good as JC can offer.
And thanks for the southsider comments! As one, I pretty much concur wholeheartedly. We're moving in two months and have narrowed down our choices to the Haven at Knob Creek or somewhere in the Tree Streets. While I LOVE the Haven and its amenities... I really don't want to leave the south side.

grass is always greener, i suppose... a Mellow Mushroom is literally ~3 min walking distance (at a leisurely pace) from my home, but I'd rather eat @ Italian Pizza Pub on W. Walnut St. in JC any day. In the same vein, a Firehouse's barbecue sandwich beats anything here in Atlanta, which is quite possibly the worst barbecue city in the country.

True, Atlanta isn't known for its barbecue, is it?
Italian Pizza Pub is really good and cheap! Alley Katz is also pretty good...

Yeha, the pub is awesome. I like Quiznos better than alley katz, but the pub is awesome. I guess it is that "grass is always greener on the other side" mentality.

Yeah but, come on, this is Johnson City. The land of Restaurant Row can support a Mellow Mushroom as well. More choices is always great.
I love Quizno's (their toasted subs... I lived on them on UTK's campus!), too.
