General Morgan *is* good. I love the piano in the entry hall! I had one high school prom there and then later spent quite a bit of time on the premises as part of a scholarship program and let me tell you, I played that piano every chance I got.

The Vinyard (Vineyard) in north Bristol used to be an "upscale" and fancy restaurant, but toward the end there, it ended up looking trashy and eventually out of business. It was an italian restaurant. Last time I ate there was about 1993 and it was like $15.00 for a plate of spaghetti.

Had a pretty unpleasant meal at General Morgan about five years ago. One of the worst "buffets" I have ever experienced, and I'm not a real "buffet person". I've never returned. Martha Washington has gone through some big changes, I hear. My parents attended Sunday brunch there a few weeks ago, and there were only about five filled tables.

LOL - Ripshin, if you find a restaurant you like, please let us know, okay? I simply must go there.

If you want great service, fantastic food in a quaint little intimate restaraunt...then check out, "The Whistle Stop" It is in a building that use to be an old mill in Afton, Tn. She only opens on Thurs. Fri. and Sat from 5-9 and you must make reservations. The tables have linens, crystal stemware, candles and flowers on the tables. We have been going off and on for years and the food is always consistent, meaning we've never ever gotten a bad meal. The meal includes soup, salad, entree and the best dinner rolls w/real butter that you have ever tasted. We were so impressed with it, that a few years back, I arranged for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary celebration there. They even let me bring in a 3-tier wedding cake and champagne. Everyone that we recommend to this place , always loves it, and always goes back. They do not advertise, they only rely on "word of mouth" advertising. Afton is towards Greenville. I do not know the exact directions, but I will find out and post them. Prices are not too bad either. Entrees are $20-25 or less. You will absolutely love this place. Their desserts are "to die for", too! She allows brown-bagging too, if you want wine or champagne with your meal.
Checkout directions and phone number here- The Whistlestop Restaurant | Afton, TN | Greeneville, TN | Greeneville Marketplace

Tnhoneypot (cool name).. The Whistlestop sounds wonderful - and in Afton (not much there)! We'll have to check it out..
As to a bad buffet at the General Morgan, sorry you had that experience, Ripshin. We've eaten there many times and never had anything but a good meal - lunch or dinner. The charming decor and atmosphere are wonderful and remind me of restaurant/inns in Connecticut where we came from.

The name is deceptive...The Country Cafe in Limestone Cove outside of Unicoi is a gem -- specializing in seafood. Maybe not the fanciest of places, but you will be surprise by the high quality of the food and the beautiful presentation. The prices are reasonable -- and the food is absolutely wonderful. They're only open for dinner and it's so popular that reservations are recommended. A very unique dining experience. Click here to read more about the place.... Town of Unicoi Tennessee
