A good place to eat breakfast anyone?
Since moving here three years ago my wife and I have been looking for a good place to eat breakfast, especially on the weekends. We have tried more places than I can name and vowed not to go back. Eggs any way we want them as long as it's scrambled. Burned pancakes and French Toast. Greasy potatoes. Leathery bacon. And in the Bristol Herald Courier's Best of Bristol, the winner for breakfast was Hardees. No joke, at least I think not. Ryan's on Euclid tried weekend breakfast for awhile, but no more. All the other breakfast buffets in the area give buffets a bad name. So, where does someone go for a decent breakfast? TIA

I don't have that discerning of a pallet. I like IHop's breakfast and Chick-Fil-A's is good too.
The Tropical Smoothie Cafe is good, but ... it's smoothies.
Mid-City Grill has decent omelets, gravy and hashbrowns but their hours are extremely odd for traditional breakfasts.
To be honest, the one restaurant that is just excellent for breakfast is Tipton's Cafe in Greeneville on Depot Street. That might be a bit far for you to drive from Bristol!

I'm headed back to the area soon, to live for a while, and would also be interested. Why anybody would list a chain restaurant, is beyond me. I visit the area yearly, and can think of nothing.

Uh oh! White boy gone crazy! I LOOOOOVE me some McDonalds breakfast!
And that's the honest truth. Chains are chains because they're good. Not always, just like indies aren't always, either. Why anyone would automatically shut down consideration of a chain is beyond me.

Chains are chains because most people have become accustomed to over-salted cheap food and wouldn't take two steps to either side to find alternatives. I very seldom eat at a chain and for the odd times that I do, I always have to drink multiple glasses of water to rehydrate and, far to often, end up in the mens room less then an hour after the meal....THAT'S why some folks will automatically shut down consideration of a chain.
On the other hand, there are many poor independents. But I'm willing to take a chance the food won't be any worse then the (Cr)Applebees next door.
As to the OP's question...this area is tough for breakfast sad to say..plus, I"m not much on breakfast so hopefully somebody else will have some recs for you so I can take notes.

Cracker barrel
Yummy, yummy, yummy.
You can get eggs the way you want them, hash browns or hashbrown casserole, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, grits, bacon, country or sugar ham, sausage, cereal, biscuits, real maple syrup....I am drooling now.
Yeah, it's a chain restaurant, but I love their breakfast !!
I also love IHOP's pancakes and crepes.
Mountaineer ...I used to love their omelettes, but they are closed now.
Perkins has good omelettes (IMO).

LOL! I forgot about Cracker Barrel. How could I? Well, maybe because it dehydrates and diarrheates me, I shoved it clean out of my brain.
Mountaineer, where was that?

When I moved down here the prospect of breakfast was strange for me. When I was young, I popped a bagel in the toaster, ate dry cereal, or if I was lucky, defrosted a Toaster Strudel. About twice a month would be actually cooking bacon and eggs, and usually that would be if company was over, and nobody wanted to drive to Dunkin Donuts.
I come down here and Ricky wants biscuits and gravy, eggs, side of bacon, shredded potatoes and a glass of milk. I just want a bagel. I've cooked more breakfast in the last two years than all of my life!
Anyway, breakfast out is IHOP here, not much else that I know of. I'm a big fan of chicken biscuits with lettuce, tomato, and mustard, so McD and Chick-Fil-A are open too. But most of the time I will just cook at home.
Most people don't know that Jason's Deli has breakfast, but it is more of a catering deal. You need to call a day ahead of time, sadly. But they have two kinds of coffee cake, scones, croissants and bagel with ham/bacon/sausage, egg and cheese. They do fruit (strawberries, apples, pineapple, grapes, kiwi) and dip (made out sour cream, brown sugar, orange flavoring, good stuff!) You can order orange juice and coffee as well.

Me too
I too wish there was a good place to get breakfast items in the morning, but also all times of the day. IHOP and Perkins are about in on a daily bases.
I think maybe the Holiday Inn does something for brunch on Sundays and I know The Russo Orleans does a Sunday brunch but those are both in the afternoon and only have the few breakfast items, although the omelets and eggs Benedict are good.
I wish there were a locally owned place (I agree with the OP, prefer anything to the chains) where you could not only get eggs Benedict done several ways, maybe with spinach or shrimp, but also crapes, good fresh fruit bowls, supper fresh omelet ingredients, and a side item choice besides deep fried potatoes or greasy sausage.

MB, I'm a huge eggs benedict fan. Usually it is the typical canadian bacon/egg/hollandaise here, but some tomatoes and spinach in place of meat is good, too. I can't get smoked salmon here it seams, so lox and cream cheese on a bagel are out
