Default Five Guys in JC?

A friend said she saw a billboard somewhere on 26 that advertised Five Guys and included their Kingsport location along with "Coming Soon in JC"

Anyone heard this or have any idea where they're going?

Eh...i've never cared for Five Guys burgers or fries....i mean their fries are ok if theyre fresh but ive never enjoyed them even after the car ride from the store to my home....they get too soggy/cold by that point....and the burgers leave a lot to be desired.... i'd move to the tri-cities area in a heartbeat if they'd build a Roy Rogers restaurant instead....i miss my old hometown because there was one just down the road from me that i would bike to often...but i wouldnt want to live in that area again just because of it.

I actually really like Five Guys... so I would be really excited. Especially if they come on North Roan so I could go there on the lunch break!!!

Roy Rogers? If we're talking about defunct or near defunct places we would like to see in JC lets talk about Kenny Rogers Roasters, H. Salt Fish and Chips, and Lums!

My grill is better then 5 Guys but overall they've done a solid job with quality control during their massive expansion. Friends tell me the franchises aren't up to the standards of the original but they say it's very close. Whether you're a fan of 5 Guys or not, they do prepare fresh food at fair prices imo.

Slightly OT but I heard Tomy Thai was putting a place in JC..anybody else know anything about that? That would save me a bi-weekly trip to Kingsport when I get back up there.

My daughter tells me there is a new sandwich shop where Phillys use to be...anybody tried that place?

LOVE Five Guys. Much better than Pal's burgers. We ate there while in Richmond a bit. A+ for the Cajun Fries. And who wouldn't want all the toppings for free, either?

I like Five Guys and I've eaten there a few times up in Maryland and also here in Northern Virginia, but compared to Pal's, I don't think that Five Guys stacks up.

But they aren't for "free" per se. You just automatically pay for them whether you want them or not. That's actually one reason I like Pal's a lot better. I can get a Double Big Pal Plain and it's a lot more to eat than a Five Guys burger and it costs significantly less.

(Though, I should mention I've been slowing getting myself off of fast food over the past few years. I almost never eat it any more. But I do make exceptions for Pal's when I'm in JC.)

Default We tried Five Guys.

We hated it. Ok, hate is a strong word. It was fair. Nothing to write home about.

Over crowded, over priced, long wait, etc. The meat had a pretty good flavor, though.

Pal's doesn't offer 80% of what they do. And their burgers are gritty, bottom buns are soggy with grease. They aren't bad, but not the best. I know the are not free, but they don't add an extra $0.50 for every extra topping you want. A burger with everything they have would be astronomical somewhere else.

Burgers are like pizza for people. I don't think there will ever be agreement. To be honest, I prefer a place over any "fast" chain where I can order something almost still moo-ing. Or throw my own on the grill - but that takes planning!

ETA: I believe they are going in the old Salsarita's across from Olive Garden on N Roan.

I really like Five Guys. I prefer Pal's. To be honest, I love food.
