Default Economic Forecast for Tenn (Bristol)

Dear Friends:
I will be making an exploratory trip to the Tri-Cities area next month--preparatory to buying a home.

With so many states running humongous deficits, instituting and/or raising income tax rates, etc. I was wondering what might be in the offing for Tennessee?

Thank you for your help.

Nothing in the foreseeable future. We had a surplus last year (2007), and I think we balanced it this year (2008). We'll see how 2009 goes, but with the stimulus I'd be shocked if taxes increased, especially considering the new property tax assessments.

We've still to get the bottom line on tax assessments. I wrote Monty's office in J-borough again as a member of his task force promised to come out and review the entire condominium since they raised the assessments higher than we can sell the houses for [almost]. Hoping to hear back soon. A jump from 78,000 to 104,200 in five years seems a bit excessive even to a Yankee like me and we're used to being boned by the government.
As others have said; this is a great place to live, affordable housing, cheap property taxes [even with the higher assessments], great climate, nice folks...just don't come here looking for a high paying job. Better yet, you better bring your own job with you if you can.
