Default Five Guys Burgers and Fries

Five Guys is now in JC. I don't know that it's open yet, but I don't think BYB can compete with Five Guys.

I see this was made into it's own thread....my comment wasnt carried over but ill repost it so it can be deleted from the other thread....

I don't care for Five Guys....a lot of my co-workers seem to love it, as do my parents, but it's just not my style.

Adding onto the above comment, i felt the burgers tasted too processed, not enough taste, and the fries probably are ok if theyre fresh but when youve driven with them 15 minutes before getting them inside a home, they do not survive that trip.....

I'm afraid you've got it all wrong. See the whole thing with 5 guys is that their meat is NOT highly processed ... it is fresh, never frozen. I don't know of any other burger joint that does that. You can also tell by the shape of their patties that they are not pre-patted days before. 5 Guys cooks with peanut oil, which is healthier than the veg oil used at 99% of restaurants, it also produces a higher quality taste. The fries are simply a whole potato run fresh through a slicer and fried - similar to Ridgewood's fries. How can it get any better? It does, at 5 Guys all toppings are free and cooked to order, even jalapenos and sauteed mushrooms or onions.

PS. Their website admits that their food is not good for catering ... it does not travel well. Much better to eat it fresh.

I'll have to agree with RC on this one. I don't eat burgers (expcept Veggie Burgers) but I do eat at Five Guys. I'm okay with the consistency of the meat, which is my main problem with burgers in general. I like the fries, too, though there are too many of them and I don't order unless there is someone to share with. I can't imagine that they would be good for take-out as the food might get too soggy. A short trip back to the office, maybe, but probably not a 15 minute drive. Most people seem to eat at the restaurant.

Is it located in the shopping center across from Toys-R-Us, or did I hear wrong?

Thanks! I can't wait to try them out! As for BYB, we didn't think they were anything special, and they were way too expensive for an average size burger.
If ya want a great old-fashioned type cheeseburger, ya'll need to check out Dolly's in Erwin. Its a hole in the wall kinda place, with one woman manning the grill-Dolly. She grills the buns in butter too! Delish! Her place is on Ohio Av. across from Ledford Funeral Home. Get the Dolly burger and be sure and try some of her made from scratch desserts. Her coconut cream cake was to die for! If you come for the Apple Festival in a couple of weeks from now, be sure and check her out.

I'll have to try out Dolly's. Another is Tipton's in Greeneville. Mabel's the waitress but I forget the cook's name. It's been too many years since I was in there!
