Coupons on doors and people knocking, asking if you want you trees cut: if we want that service we will call.Same with ADT, Apex alarms, assorted and sundry window salesmen.

In some areas there are robberies, and my neighbor called ADT to complain young people were going door to door posing as sales repsand robbing vacant houses. Our neighborhood had to organize community watch, as JC police noted an uprise in robberies during august.

Take note, when people come to your door selling something, they are often there to case the property.

Notice taken, but I think it would be somewhat more accurate to say they are sometimes there to case the property, instead of "often". There are quite a few legit door to door salespeople and people shouldnt be scared, just cautious if something seems out of line.

True, and this happens everywhere, however people in JC proper should be aware of what local police are saying, and my neighbor(who is retired and home most of the time), was recently robbed of her jewelry and various other things while her husband went out for an hour. -it helps to be aware, ignorance is not bliss when it comes to crime.

My neighbors house was broken into yesterday IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. There have also been 6 "sales people" that have come to my door in the past week, as well as a guy with tattoos all over him asking for money for his child. I think it's quite strange how much robberies have increased. I guess when nobody can find a damn job they are forced to choose alternative means to support themselves.

Beware of groups, not driving a vehicle carrying an ADT sign they stole from someone elses yard, they were in our area, and ADT says they don't use door-door sales anyway.

Also I take offense to the fact that that door-door is supposed to be tolerated, many people do not want to be disturbed, or their animals and children because some jerk is trying to make a buck. I pay good money to have a quiet house on a cul-de-sac, no reason salespeople should be justified. Ones house and yard is private property,by law.

I talked to one of these "ADT " guys just the other day ... seemed shady. He had "ADT" embroidered on his shirt but it wasn't the typical ADT font. It was close but not exact.

One of my friends had a pull behind trailer stolen from her front yard, in the middle of the day, while she was home.

Monterey, if you don't want door to door people, your property has to be posted.

I can't remember the last time we had a knock at the door.

Try putting a sign at the start of your farms driveway. If it reads .. ''Call before entering .. and if you don't know my unlisted number then you have no business here unless you have a warrant'', with a picture of a 357 Mag.

Trust me, you'll only have close friends and family visiting, and even they'll call you before driving through your gap.

--Its not a farm, its north JC...the point is,they are doing it in daylight, the police are aware, and we also need to be aware when home. Not exaggerating, apathy is what leads to crime.

I would call ADT corp.,supposedly they no longer use door-door sales reps in this area.

Where the hell do you all live? I live in Highland, the ghetto, and have only had one person knock on the door all year, and it was a young girl selling magazine subscriptions.

I guess these people case rich neighborhoods???

Hmmm.. I have had 2 different guys in the past 6 months knock on my door who were supposedly from ADT. I never open the door all the way and I am sure to be obviously holding my dog back from going out the door. They can hear her but can not see her. I always say not interested and then close the door. But now I am thinking I need to be even more careful. Thanks for the heads up. We live in an average middle class, starter home type neighborhood, so not sure if this is just "up scale" areas. I will however be calling the sheriffs department then next time I see a guy with ADT knocking on doors in the neighborhood.
