HAHAHAHA that's great!!!

The first camera is up, at Market/SoF. It's not operational and won't be for a while probably.

That may not be the busiest intersection, but it's the most congested. Traffic backs up especially northbound Franklin and westbound Market, with people trying to leave ETSU and the JCMC, and trying to get to Jonesborough and Greeneville on the home commute.

Feb 28 is soon! The article didn't mention a 'grace period.' Usually with these cameras, the first month, violations will be sent out but there's no fee collected.

The city of Gulf Breeze Florida has the cameras all over and are making a killing on them. A group of local kids stole a license plate off of a police car, and put it on a car and ran a red light in town over 100 times. The computer sent 100 tickets to the police dept!

NOW THAT IS FUNNY!!!!!

These cameras suck. I'm suprised no one has mentioned the shortening of yellows which typically accompanies their installation. They are pitched as safety improvements, but almost always increase accidents. Defensive, law-abiding drivers who would normally coast through a 3 or 4 second yellow now have to slam on their brakes out of fear for their finances during the transition from a 1- or 2- second yellow to red on a road with a 30+ mph speed limit. These things are all the range in money-losing nanny states like New York and California. I don't think the beautiful state of Tennessee, with some of the nicest roads in the country, needs them. But apparently, a government official who's more clever than I would beg to differ.

I'll be slamming my brakes ... no need to take a chance on the ticket. I see yellow, I'm locking them up.

Me too. The person who rear-ends is charged at fault anyway.

With attention from the local media and state-level legislation activities, I imagine someone from Johnson City Traffic Engineering Department will check the timing-length of the yellow lights at each red-light camera intersection – “CYA situation”??? I could be wrong...

You must not be from the South. We don't trust organizations, as a rule. The existence of the city's Traffic Engineering Department is only further proof that they're conspiring to lower the yellow light time interval.
