Hello,

I am used to living in a rural community, where are the safe areas around JC to look for a simple house on a few acres of grass?

I have a first grader and I've been reading to posts on schools and of course want the best educational opportunities for him while living in a rural setting.

Thanks very much,
Cilla

Stay in Washington County and you'll be fine anywhere. Perhaps avoid Watauga, but it isn't "unsafe".

Rural, I would say to look in western Washington County just past Jonesborough. Telford, Limestone, Bowmantown.

Default Thanks for the advice

What is the access to the Cherokee National Forest like near Johnson City?

I see roads going up into the Cherokee, are there trails for walking off these roads?

Post Thanks for the info

It's probably too late to respond to this thread, but I'm looking for this very thing too. I don't have to worry about schools though.

Older, small farmhouses in Telford, Chuckey and Limestone would probably be a good bet to get a house (needing work) and a decent size piece of land under $100K.. I'm always looking for my son and have seen a few of those mentioned.. Greeneville, too, although that's a little farther out. Oh, and Trulia.com is also a great site because you can see what's been sold in a particular area, thereby giving you an idea of the market.
