I saw a quick blip in the classifieds section of the newspaper that a new restaurant, "Smokies Restaurant" is opening Jan 2nd. It is listed as being behind Gran Furniture on Oakland. They are giving out free food noon to 4:00 for their opening. Anyone else hear about this place? Anyone know what kind of restaurant it is going to be? A sports bar kind of place maybe?
I noticed the Mellow Mushroom sign is up....can't wait for that to open.

I also noticed that a Vanity store is opening up in the mall. That's a Midwest-based (Minneapolis, I think? Something like that) teen and young womens clothing store.

Behind grand? In that small building where restaurants go to die?

There is also a new italian place on N Roan in that small complex in front of Target. Was a Philly sandwich, then a mexican, then a sandwich shop, now an italian. Great frontage...seems like a no brainer location.

The Mexican restaurant was God-awful. And I can eat basically anything. Never tried the other incarnations.

Other than being highly visible, I think its only an average to bad location. Unless it is somehow easily accessible from the Target parking lot, the traffic and parking situation is awful. I, for one, have never even entered that strip center.

Agree on the access for that location but it is easy to get to from the Target lot. If you make good food 15 minutes outside of town, people will find you and frequent your place so, with the frontage, I don't think it's a bad location at all. I could make almost any business work if I had 10,000(?) cars driving by (or sitting at a traffic light) on a daily basis.

Anyone been to this restaurant yet? If someone does please post your thoughts. I'm also interested to know who started/owns this. Thanks!

Many more than 10,000. There's 35-40k daily passing by the Taco Bell on West Market/SoF intersection.

I've never been in that strip mall either, and I work at Target.

That Roan St. strip......Horrible location. Very little direct parking. Bad intersection. There is a reason that four restaurants haven't made it there. Who wants to park in a lower lot and walk up? Just didn't make sense. In regards to the one near Grands - haven't seen it. ANOTHER teen store in the mall? Is the JC mall determined to become the teen hangout of the Tri-Cities?? Try shopping there, and moving around the kids WITH NO SHOPPING BAGS IN THEIR HANDS. That Forever 21 monstrosity is usually empty. I've been to about four large-city malls, that limit under 16 to a parent, after hours. LOVE that. If I have to see ONE MORE teen couple making out in the JC mall, I will go crazy. And kids, the pants hanging halfway down your rear-end? It is SO 1998.

I dunno. You go to a mall, you know there's teens there. That's just how it's been, as long as the mall's existed. Sometimes there's just not that much else to do when you're sixteen and want to go out and spend time with your friends. In bigger cities, certainly, but in JC?

There's always lots of people in Forever 21 when I'm there. I adore it. Wear a few Forever 21 clothes myself.

I agree though. I wish the saggin and baggin crew would pull 'em up!
