I wish I had answers for you but Greeneville seems to be an unknown to the posters here. We'll be moving to north Greene Co. later this year, with one of us retired. We spent several trips looking around the area and ultimately the Greeneville area "felt" best to us. Morristown is more industrial. The areas a bit further west of it are lovely but with little chance for me to find employment. The tri-cities area is more populated, more shopping, more things to do, but higher real estate prices and the stresses that can come with living more intensely.
Our search was focused on amount of land available for horsekeeping, privacy, opportunity for employment, and a maximum of 10 hours driving time to Winchester, VA. Maybe the best thing would be to decide what things are really important to you in your retirement and then do online searches to see if those things are available in the various areas?
I've yet to meet a single person in TN who isn't warm and friendly.
