Default Greeneville Schools-City V/S County?

Hello all I am moving to the area in June with two kids that will be attending an elementary and a middle school and need some advice on city versus county schools and what the "tuition" is. My kids go to a public school here and there is no fee to go so I am confused as to why there is a cost to go to a public school. I have looked at Eastview Elementary or Tusculum View and Greeneville Middle. They seem to have good ratings and a low popuation. Any input on these schools would be appreciated. Also any suggestions on rental housing, townhomes or 3-4 bdr apts that allows dogs would be great.

Greeneville City Schools are leaps and bounds above Greene County Schools in most ways.. I'm a product in the Greene County school system and most of the education I got was from my mom at home. (BTW, she is a teacher in the County schools, so there *are* some good educators in the system.)

There is a big difference at the high school level too, btw. That might not totally be reflected in test scores, but is especially apparent in other advantages and opportunities - like multiple guidance counselors, more AP classes, a better support network, more diversity, more clubs and extracurriculars etc. South Greene comes closest to the opportunities provided at Greeneville High but it's not quite equal. Chuckey Doak is next. The county schools offer some better vocational opportunities though, like woodworking/shop, greenhouse management, and FFA stuff (parliamentary procedure, etc.). Kinda depends on what kind of school your fits into best. I know some students who succeeded much better at county schools than they would have at GHS.

The fee has to do with the way the funding is set up. Greeneville City Schools are partially funded by taxes levied only on city residents, so for a county resident to attend, that has to be made up by a tuition on those students.

So let me understand if I live in the city limits I do not pay the fee but if I live outside the city my kid can go if I pay the fee or choose a county school? How much is the fee? Is it worth the education?
