Took a nice weekend excursion up 321 out of Hampton and over to Trade TN on 421 this Sunday in the convertible. If you are looking for a great springtime ride I suggest checking it out.
The new mill which has been built with the 'innards' from the old mill is right along route 421, can't miss it.
I stopped in there last Sunday and the miller [Mr. James Miller], gave me a tour from rafters to foundation. He and his family used to run the White's Mill in Abingdon until 1969. People ask him how long he has been a 'miller' and with his last name he delights in saying: "Pretty near all my life." The mill runs on water from a reservoir up the hill and Mr Miller informed me that the mill has 9,000 ft. lbs. of torque at the wheel. Not bad for running on just water and gravity. Bought some "Popcorn Grits" while I was there. Similar to my favorite Yellow Stone ground grits but maybe a little sweeter and milder [if Grits could be more mild]. Take your camera as the mill couldn't be more photogenic.
Trade is the easternmost, and one of the oldest settlements in TN, named for the gap where trading occurred with the Indians. You can then ride down to Mountain City and then over "the Snake" on 421 to Shady Valley or over to Damascus and down to Abingdon VA. I stopped at the Abingdon winery off of Jeb Stuart Hwy. and sampled the latest vintages and then rode back to JC.
All in all a great cruise if you are looking for some beautiful east TN mountain scenery and some local sights.

Sounds awesome. Do you know what dates "Trade Days" are planned for this Summer? (Website still has 2009 info) I have family from the UK coming over, and I think they would like to go to Trade Days.
