Default Where to stay on a weekend trip

I'm thinking of setting up a weekend getaway for me and my wife to the Tri-Cities. What is a good hotel to stay at for that weekend? No set agenda yet, just want to go to the area to enjoy that sights and things to do.

So what do you all suggest?

I don't think you would be disappointed in the Carnegie Hotel. It has pretty much everything you could ask for, including a decent restaurant and a spa.

The General Morgan Inn in Greeneville has been completely redone and is beautiful, plus fab. dining. They have packages for weekenders and if you are lucky the Niswonger Center will have somethng showing. Its a great get away. Greeneville is a great walking town with shops downtown and the Andrew Johnson Home.
Technically not in the TRI- but close enough is Abingdon with The Martha Washington Inn and Barter. The MWI has great suites, spas and wonderful dining and Abindgon is another great little place to explore. Catch a play at the Barter and you week end is bound to be terrific. Good luck and have a great time here.

If you want to stay closer-in, there are some nice inns in downtown Jonesborough. Hawley House, Eureka Inn, Blair-Moore House, The Mohler Guest house, Franklin House, etc.

I just recently stayed two nights in Kingsport at the Days Inn which is just off from Stone Ave and it was great!!! The owner even gave me a discount, so it was very affordable and they serve a free breakfast. PLUS it is away from the beaten path a bit so there was not a lot of traffic and it was quiet. And the room I had was very nice.

Kingsport has a great Greenbelt and is 20 mind from the other cities. An easy hopover to VA & the Wilderness Trail or Arcadia one of the first settlements. Plenty of places on Stone Drive or Hampton Inn near 26 which runs from Kingsport to Johnson City
Meadowview is nice but $$$. Bays Mountain, lakes, plenty to do between the 3 cities depending on your tastes, budget & the time of year you visit of course.
