Looking for mid size town close to knoxville
Our son in law has taken a new job in Knoxville and we are moving with them to be close to the grandbabies so this means two houses to buy. We are looking for a town near the smokies but away from the rush, low crime , good schools and friendly people. We were looking at Seymour or Mayville nothing big. We have ordered newpapers and home books from there but It is hard to choose when you do not know the area. Can anyone help with info ????

Seymour crime is a 1 for personal and a 2 for property crime. 10 would be Iraq!
Average household income $42k
Job growth 17% (which is good)

Hope this helps!
Here is some info I found about Maryville that might answer some of your questions...I hope!
There are currently some 23,120 residents living in Maryville, with a median age of forty two years old. Of the city's working-age population, approximately twenty nine percent of residents here are employed in the service industry. An additional twenty seven percent work in a professional or managerial capacity, while around fourteen percent are employed in an administrative capacity. The annual household income in Maryville is above the national average, coming in at around $40,013 per year.
I have been to Maryville many times and I thought it was nice. I heard the schools are great and lots of people really like the area. I saw serveral communtiy playgrounds and parks. There is lots of shoping and if you can't find it there, Knoxville is about a 15-20 minute drive.
If you need anything else, just let me know, email me, I will do my best to help you find what you need.

Maryville is kind of a big small town. It's not huge, but it has really grown in the last several years. Traffic isn't bad. Really I can't tell where Maryville starts and Alcoa ends. There are several places to shop : super Walmart, Target, Kmart, a mall, Home Depot, Lowes, Big Lots, Hobby Lobby, ect. Kroger and Food City have a couple of stores each over there. They have many restaurants and are adding several more. There is a real nice walking trail in town that goes around a lake where you can feed the ducks. Off the top of my head I can think of one park (for kids to play) on Maryville Pk, but I am sure there are several others.

To me they are basically the same place. You really can't tell which is which. I guess if you live there you would figure it out based on your address and school zones. I lived just off Maryville Pike in Knoxville and have spent a lot of time in Maryville/Alcoa and my dad worked at Alcoa, but about all I know is if you are near the plant you are in Alcoa.

Also looking in Tennessee
Hi, we're also contemplating move to Tennessee around Knoxville area and have been researching towns. No grandbabies, no jobs. Active fixed income retirees. Maryville seems the most apealing of the towns from the city-data info. Low crime, fairly affordable. We're actually heading to the area next week to look around. We'd appreciate info on things in our range. Looking for a town between aprox. 10,000 to 30,000. older House around $130,000. Easy place to get acquainted and get around in, like to hike & boat. Would also like to network with storytelling group.

I think that Maryville would be good but would also suggest Jonesborough, home to the National Storytelling Festival
