Default Relocating to Knoxville

My husband is interviewing in Knoxville and we are excited about the prospect of moving there from Indiana. We have been through Knoxville a few times on trips to the Great Smoky Mountains, but that is about all the exposure to the city we have had.

We have 3 small children, 2 of them are in school - first grade and kindergarten. I am mostly interested in personal opinons about the school districts in and around Knoxville. Our primary goal in buying a home is to buy one in a good. solid district. Any thoughts about where that might be?

Also, are there any communities within reasonable commuting distance to Knoxville (20-30 minutes) that you would suggest looking into? Thanks!

We have been looking in the same area. We have a daughter starting Kindergarten and a son who will be in 2 years. Alot of realtors and others I have spoken with always bring up Farragut and other places in western Knoxville. They say those are the best school districts. We will be heading up in a couple weeks to look around with a move hopefully within the next year. We have good paying , secure jobs in S. Fl., but this place is going downhill fast. Prices are a joke for homes, then you have the taxes and crazy insurance rates. Been here 30+ years, not gonna miss it.

Farragut borders Knoxville and has easy access to the nicer parts of West Knoxville. Commuting to Knoxville's old city area is about 20 minutes from Farragut.

Farragut is also an expensive part of the city to live in. That is why the schools are better. Anything to the West side is considered the "rich" side of town and the housing costs more.
