Default Mercy Riverside (Baptist)

On Mercy's website, the old Baptist hospital is listed as an "other Mercy facility" not one of their hospitals. It says
Mercy Riverside has numerous physician practices as well as select outpatient services.
So it's not a full-functioning hospital, there's no emergency room? Just want to know in case I ever need to be rushed somewhere....

The Baptist hospital that overlooks the river? That's closed.

Any word on what they are planning on doing with it? Seems like they would have limited options based on how it is built...

The sky's the limit. Wanna buy it? It's for sale.

By the way, there are still outpatient services at the facility. Mercy is creating a physician's service center at a former Food City in South Knoxville, meanwhile.

Sure, I think I got $2.40 in my car's ash tray.

That certainly is a premium property that is not going to sell or be re-developed fast; much to the chagrin of... everyone. I would love to make it into low-income housing.

Its being marketed as a potential mixed use development in coordination with the south waterfront plan.

The city should look into putting a mini Atlantic Station or a mini The Block at Orange on the old Baptist property. Perhaps this will help to attract most "upscale" businesses to downtown away from West Town and Turkey Creek.

Haslam and the city have been doing a darned good job of attracting upscale shops to downtown. However, I'm assuming you are referring to something that you all have in Atlanta? Perhaps you can expand on that for us. It's probably a good idea given the success that Atlanta enjoys.

I think he's talking about the big mixed use development that went in downtown in Atlanta. It's awesome. Basically kind of a new urbanism "town within a city". Blocks of outdoor shopping complete with areas for outdoor vendors, crafts, farmer's markets, etc. in walking proximity to both low and high rise condos and apartments. Something like this on a smaller scale could have profound positive effects on downtown Knoxville. Apparently something like this in the works for the street behind Gay facing Summit Hill. Its been dubbed "Marble Alley" and the preliminary renderings show several blocks of shopping, a new 5-6 story condo development and a 7-8 story office building. The idea is to have a visual "step down" from the towers of Gay St so that it doesn't look like downtown is dangling from a cliff on the Summit Hill side. Lets hope this one actually comes to fruition. With the economy now, it looks like several downtown projects are on hold. Sadly, the 21 story Sentinel Tower is dead most likely. Cazana says that the 15 story Metropolitan Plaza is still going to happen, but it may be a few years...

concerning the hospital....what happened, Mercy took it over but is trying to sell it? They changed all the signs, why is it mentioned on their website then?
