Maynardville -- still waiting
Posted a few days ago and asked if anyone out there knows what kind of a town Maynardville is...still no answer. We are retirees, so not looking for jobs or schools. It is nice? quaint? rundown? There's precious little info on the Net.
Cheers,

I have only sort of passed through the area because there really isn't much there. I think I went to the Rite Aid there a few months ago. Really I can't recall hearing much of it on the news except for the high school football scores. Though I don't know much about it my first thoughts of the town would be it is sort of blue collar maybe even redneck territory (though we have those sprinkled in everywhere). Of course I could be wrong because I have never spent much time there. I just felt like you deserved some kind of a response and probably the reason you can't find much about it is because there isn't much to tell about it. Sorry, I know I'm not much help.

I was afraid of that
Thanks for the reply...since there was such a dirth of information, I figured the town might not be what we're looking for -- particularly not even rudimentary shopping.

Have you looked in East TN at all? Rogersville might be more of what you are looking for.....just a thought.

Too far east
Thanks, MBMOUSE, but we want to be within about 30 miles of Knoxville. The far eastern end of Tennessee is beautiful, but too far away from a city for us, I'm afraid. We've kind of zeroed in on Campbell and Anderson counties.
Cheers

My husband and I are looking at a house in Maynardswille, but haven't seen much. Where is nearest shopping, mall, movie theater, etc? outside of this area?
How are house plans going? Log home or otherwise? Would you be interested in discussing? We may want to build and don't know where to begin

We looked around Maynardville briefly. But we were looking more rural--though we did drive through the residential area somewhat. I didn't find any reason I wouldn't like to live there; we just wound up (God willing) finding our "spot" in Loudon/Kingston area.
We stopped at the drug store (Rite Aid I think) in Maynardville and everyone was very nice and "normal" looking...ya know? I don't really know why it's so hard to find info on this town either; I was trying a few months ago but it seems like it's just "unremarkable" which I can agree with.
It doesn't seem like it's on the "upswing" nor the "downswing", which is part of its appeal for us. We're not looking for a progressive area that's going to be popular and have a huge influx of people. But we're also not looking for an area that's destined for tumbleweeds either.
The main reason not to choose Maynardville for us, was the properties we were looking at were unmanageable (i.e. steep cliffs) as were most of the 4+ acre properties we were looking at in the entire area (we're on a <$50k budget).
Good luck!

I have lived in Maynardville since 2001 and absolutely love it. I am still working and have to trek to Knoxville daily, however the peace and quiet and lack of crime are worth the 200 miles I have to drive weekly. Property taxes are low and a nice town in general. We do not have alot of shopping, there are a couple of nice quaint restaurants, several banks, a couple of drug stores, but we are growing. A new grocery chain will be in by mid summer so we are definitely getting to be a "big boy" soon. I hope this helps. You could not pay my expenses to move me elsewhere!!!

There is this curvy piece of main drag road there I wouldn't want to do in the winter but if you're retired, eh, you don't have to go out when it's icy.
