To encourage alternative kinds of transportation such as walking or biking, Knox County will build a new greenway through Halls with the help of a Tennessee Department of Transportation grant.
The grant, valued at $501,282, will fund what Knox County Parks and Recreation's Terry Shupp said is Phase II of a four-part project.
Shupp, coordinator for Parks and Greenways, said greenway plans would never have gotten to this point without the support of Knox County citizens.
"The Halls community has been so involved and so supportive of this project," Shupp said. "Now we're slowly making the dream come to reality."

They say its about transportation, but I feel it will ultimately be used more for forms of exercise, like bike riding, rollerblading, jogging, etc. And, that wouldn't be a bad thing. Americans have gotten very soft in the middle, me included.
