Hello everyone.

Excuse me if I'm out of place, I'm brand new to this site.
I'm originally from Russia, and I've been in Knoxville for about
a year now.

Can anyone point me to a local Russian community in the Knoxville
area? I'd like the chance to meet up with some folks from Russia,
or anywhere where Russian is spoken.

Thanks for your time.

You might want to look up the Department of Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Tennessee. There are several Russian professors there who could probably answer your question. Good luck!

I also know there is quite a presence of Russian decent in Oak Ridge. I worked with someone several years ago that moved to Oak Ridge because several families from the area of Russia he was from moved there and loved it. He said several more families he knew of were working on getting work visas so they could come too. He spoke Russian as did his friends and it was fun teaching him English in a area of Jefferson County that had a thick southern accent. He was such a great sport about it and tried so hard, picked up the English very quickly too, even with the dual accent. He said his children were leaning English at school and picking it up quicker than he and his wife and they would try to speak English at home but most days they spoke Russian at home so they could get the point out faster hahahaha. Sorry to ramble, got a little nostalgic there, I found I just missed my Russian friend.

Obninsk, Russia is one of Oak Ridge’s 2 ‘sister cities.’ According to City Data, there are 179 people of Russian ancestry in Oak Ridge. Not sure how you would find them but here's a start:

Hi,
I work in Pigeon Forge which is right up the road so to speak from Knoxville.
If you come here you will find many Russians. There is a large group that comes every year to work. There is one that works where I work.
Just come to Pigeon Forge. When you get here you can't miss them. They are everywhere riding bicycles and walking.
Hope that helps.

Default Pryvet Sasha!

Sasha,

I am not Russian, but I love the russian culture and have been to your amazing country many times. You may want to go to the International deli and market located off Kingston Pike in Knoxville, It's in the seven mile shopping center. I'm sure they have phone number listed in yellow pages. There you will meet the owners that are from Ukrania and they can tell you about the Russian communities, (there are some) Also, many Russians visit this deli everyday. It's a great place with great Russian food. How about thise pelminis and blinis...:-))
You can write me at yepporii@yahoo.com if you want a new friend.
See ya!
