Okay, so I'm finally making the move next month. I wanted to wait until I can get residency before I start going to college at Pellissippi so I could get the instate tuition. I was wondering how long I have to be there to have residency?

Tennessee does not have a residency requirement. In theory, you can establish Tennessee residency one day and then receive in-state tuition the next. However, if your college's admissions office suspects that you established residency for the sole purpose of getting in-state tuition, they could reject it and require that you pay out-of-state tuition.

In other words, you're better off moving here and getting a job for, say, a few months before applying to school.

Ah alright. Cool. Thats kind of what I was planning to do anyways. Need to earn rent money and all of that anyways for a bit and try to get a car. Thank you. Random question, what are good places to try to get a job up there? I dont really want to work in a restaurant or grocery store and my rent is 570 a month.

You really should ask Pellissippi the question instead of an internet forum, just to be sure.

I tried asking them. They wouldn't give me an answer.

21st mortgage, AT+T usually seem to have jobs open. You may have better luck in retail if you're moving in January, after all the seasonal hires are gone.

Policies and Guidelines (http://www.tbr.state.tn.us/policies/default.aspx?id=1532 - broken link)
Regulations for Classifying Students In-State and Out-of-State for the Purposes of Paying College or University Fees and Tuition and for Admission Purposes

I asked that once at Pellissippi after living here a year. They said it took 2 years of residency to get in-state tuition , but I showed that we had bought a house here and they clsfd. me as in-state. There's a form you fill out.
