Default Road Conditions: I-75 / I-40 / I-81

Anyone have any info on road conditions on the stretch from I-81 to I-40 to I-75 running down through that area?

Driving over the mountains on I-26 through Asheville seems like it could be a bit rough right now, so trying to find an alternate to Atlanta for tomorrow.

According to the Smartmap things aren't good right now. We have seen some improvement on 81 today but tonight might be a different story. TDOT Smartmap

According to my husband, who drove it a bit after eight today:

81 (from exit 8) and 40 were snow covered- he didn't hit good pavement until around 407 (Sevierville) or shortly afterwards. Hope this helps.

FWIW, my brother drove his Highlander (non-4WD) from Hartsville, SC to the Tri-Cities late this afternoon, and he had no problems going over the mountain at Sam's Gap on I-26. He said the worst stretch of road was between Johnson City and Erwin, but he still made if through just fine.
