Default Snow???

So how's the weather out there? Did you get much snow? From listening to the weather report out here, it sounded like you were getting 4-6 inches. I was so jealous!!

Jealous? The airport, in Blount County, not Knox County, received 4.3 inches. The total varied in different parts of Knox County. I received 3 inches, a total of about seven so far this winter, and that is enough to make me, a snow hater, snow weary. The airport has received 11+ inches of snow so far this year, more than any year since 1995-96, and Todd Howell on WBIR-TV stated that this is the sixth snowiest season thus far. Not sure if Howell means in the last thirty years, the normal time frame for seasonal averages, or whether he means sixth highest total of all-time. He probably means the former. Oh, for a little global warming about now.

It is pretty if you are playing in it. It's not so pretty when you have to work in it, or try to drive around in it.

Or run a business. It's not much as far as snow goes, but the city practically shuts down. It's on my last nerve, to be honest.

We got a little over two inches in north Knoxville/Fountain City. Schools have been out for two days and we are waiting to see if they will call off for a third. We've probably seen seven inches, total for the season, in my neck of the woods and I would guess that school has been out six days.

My husband opened up yesterday, got a customer, couldn't get the parts delivered, and ended up eating the job because he had to pick up the parts - while the customer waited - and discount the service.

It's also incredibly cold here, this year. My heater is on the blink and I am afraid to walk to the mailbox to get the electric bill.

sigh.

Okay, rant over. It's still better than up north or Florida.

That's true! It's pretty when you can sit at home by the fireplace & look out at it!!!

Why do they close, because people can't drive in it?? I lived in Idaho several years ago & we would get 2 feet of snow & nothing ever closed. Sometimes I wished it would have.

I don't buy that people can't drive in it. I'd rather be here than up in New England where rude people lean on their horn, swerve around you, flip you the bird, get in front of you then slam on their breaks to turn. If I had a nickle for every time I saw that happen in 34 years...

People are more cautious here and certainly more polite.

The biggest problem is this area can be flat, hilly or mountainous and there are not that many plows. There really is no need for it. Remember that this is The South. It doesn't really snow here so why buy a couple hundred plows? We just kind of sit around, play with the kids, read a book, make some rib-sticking food and wait for it to melt. Usually it melts in a couple of hours.

What we are experiencing is something that most of the country is dealing with. Right now, in my hometown, there is about two-feet of new snow and more to come. That's not that unusual. And every state in The Union has snow, except for Florida, right now. It's record breaking.

It's also irritating me to see some newcomers complaining about how cold it is in Tennessee when it is not usually this way...

Anyway, I think I was born in the wrong part of the country, especially when it comes to driving.
