Do not want noisy tourists? Aren't you from PA?

I agree 100% Think that'd be the perfect solution.

Yep there's a nuclear plant there. If you are from the north Harrisburg PA area this might not bother you but most people don't want to live there or anywhere near there. The same goes for Oak Ridge nearby Knoxville. Oak Ridge has disposed of thousands of tons of mercury, cesium, and others right in the lakes and creeks surrounding the plants. Ask any local nuclear scientist and they will tell you there is also an abnormal amount of background radiation in this area.
The other risks are probably more troublesome. Nearby Loudon county just south west of Knoxville has a paper plant, several chemical plants, waste incinerator, etc, all sitting on Ft Loudon lake across from Tellico Village.
What does this all mean? Who knows? but Loudon County has the highest cancer rate in the state of TN followed by Knox County.

Thanks for the info PDQ. This is not info you can find easily and one of the reasons we are moving to Tenn. is to be closer to nature, not chemicals. Basically this is information that locals can only help newcomers with. Thanks again.

No problem, glad to share. Not many people on this forum will share the negative aspects of the area. Most only want to paint a rosy picture of a dream-like wonderland. Either real estate sales are down or they've been taking too many happy pills.
In the end, they just want to sell you a house.

I am in Northern Virginia and we purchase a couple lots at Woodlake . We have not lived in the area but plan to build this year. We are also into NASCAR and this is a great location to follow racing.

Hi Trammel,
That is a interesting spot if you want to be extremely isolated, which many people do. It's a minimum of 1.5 hours to Knoxville and 45 minutes to Morristown. I wouldn't say that it's such a great place to follow Nascar though as there are no races anywhere in the area. North Carolina would have much more in the way of racing.

Hi pdq
You are right, it is isolated but the Woodlake community seems lively and full of activity. However, it is a little unsettling to build in an area that we are not familiar. We enjoy golfing as well as NASCAR. From Tazewell we believed that we are within 5 hours of Atlanta, Bristol, Martinsville, Talladega and Charlotte. Driving from Tazewell to Morristown is less than 30 minutes and Knoxville about an hour. Are you familiar with the Woodlake community? Thanks for your insight and suggestions.

I'm not familiar with that particular community but I know a few things about that area. It's isolated, from just about everything. That can be good and bad I guess. The good is some peace and quiet from traffic, the bad is no jobs, extreme poverty around you, poor schools, health care, stores, etc.
