I will be needing an individual health insurance policy when I move to TN this summer. I have been researching the various companies in the Knoxville area. Have you had any experience with these insurance companies in East Tennessee. If so, which would you recommend? Thank you so much!

Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN
Aetna
Humana
United Health
Cigna

I've had some of those plans but it was thru companies and that is always different than individual coverage. Right now I'm on an individual plan with Farmers (called TRH - trh.com) and they don't cover pre-existing conditions. Would love to hear of an individual PPO that does cover them that doesn't cost half your paycheck.

I don't know for absolute fact, but I've "heard" that under the new healthcare law which is starting to make changes - health insurance companies can no longer refuse coverage for pre-existing conditions. It would be well-worth investigating if that pertains to you.

That's for kids. For adults it won't take effect until 2014 and probably not at all. Republicans are doing their best to kill the healthcare law. Further, the look-back time for pre-existing conditions in the state of Tennessee is unlimited. Pretty scary, huh?
