Archers BBQ at 11151 Kingston Pike. Just ate there. First decent pulled pork (besides my own) I've had here to date. A no frills place, order at the counter and they bring it out when ready. You can hear "order up" being called from the kitchen. Paper towel dispenser on the table for napkins. Real (but cheap) cutlery. You get a six pack of different sauces (including carolina mustard).

Pork I got was real pulled meet, had to cut the chunks for right sized bites. Meat was moist with out being greasy, decent smoke flavor and bark, just the way I like it. Had bbq beans and slaw for sides and they were also the way I like it.

When ordering I thought the prices seemed a bit steep but I hoped it would be worth it. And it was.

Now I have to go back and spend the money for a combo plate so I can try all their other meats.

Oh yum! When we're in Crossville we go to Lefty's and love it!

When we're in Roane County, Buddy's does the trick, esp for fast food...it's not bad bbq!

Will have to give this place a shot next time we're down.

Just ate supper but could find room right now for some nice bbq!

I'm lucky to have Dixon's and Scruggs within walking distance. Both are world class IMO, but you make this place sound really good. I like E TN and Alabama bbq better than anywhere else. Memphis, and KC be damned

Scrugg's is definitely my favorite bbq place in the area, just unbelievably good imo, but I'm unfamiliar with Dixon's. I'll have to check it out. We don't really have an official bbq style in East TN/Georgia/Alabama, but it's basically just Carolina style with a sweet tomato based sauce instead of a hot vinegar sauce. In any case, I definitely like it better this way.

I have never tried Scrugg's or Dixon's and now I really, really want to go! Which one should I try first?

I've been making my own bbq sauce for years, using a rub and sauce that I just sort of made up. I started making this about 30 years ago, never knowing there was such a thing as a rub or what a traditional sauce would contain. I came from Yankee country where they make great seafood but buy their sauce off the shelf. I was surprised to see that my sauce is pretty much identical to the local/Carolina sauce. Great minds think alike.
