East Tennessee may be heaven but not everyone who lives here is an angel.
If you like mysteries, read Carved in Bone by Jefferson Bass (the writing team of forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Bass and journalist Jon Jefferson). Dr. Bass created the Body Farm at UT. The mystery is set in Cocke County and deals a lot with the less legal things that go on out there. It's fiction, but based on thorough knowledge of the area.

That being said, I will say this. My family is from an area of Sevier Cty called Boogertown-right on the Cocke/Sevier line, not far from Pittman Center and near Jones Cove. It was nickednamed Boogertown because of all the dark spooky hollars, and questionable individuals who hailed from the area. You prob wont find Boogertown on a map, but there is a Boogertown Road. you can Mapquest to see where I am talking about. If there are locals who truly are concerned about your coming into the area, it is probably because they dont not want people snooping around their meth labs/weed patches, more than a general dislike of outsiders. One word of caution-I wouldn't go walking around on anyone's property in many parts of Sevier or Cocke County-They love to boobytrap the stash!

I think you're bang on here. The same can be said for parts of Greene Co (especially extreme Southeast Greene and the desolate western parts) and probably most of the rest of northeast TN.

Been to Boogertown. Happened upon it by mistake. Not a bad place. Not someplace I'd want to live, but I'd choose it over Jones Cove anyday. I have a co-worker from there and she is total back country in the way she speaks but has a heart of gold.

thank you for your post, and yes I know where Boogertown road is in fact we looked at a home there last year, south boogertown road that is, believe it was in Richardson cove area? Nice area, and I do think it is like that almost anywhere you go as far as people walking on your property or getting too much in your business ya know. I would not want someone messing in my yard or in my business, so I guess I will make a good neighbor. My entire reason for posting about the Jones Cove area was because so many locals have just run it into the ground( on this forum), when we were there, we saw nothing of the sort, yes some run down trailers, but that in no way means the people are bad, or law breakers, vandals etc... And the reason for the deliverence comment, was because I have been looking up different counties, and thought I saw reference to that movie on the cocke county information sheet, could be wrong, I do know cocke county is suppose to be the moonshine capital. Heard that Newport area was the deliverence movie, whether it was made there or a spoof off the area I do not know. Just wanted a insiders point of view on Jones Cove, honest, not one that keeps others away for no good reason, and doing so by attempting to scare the %#@% out of a person. Any more info on the Jones Coves area will be very appreciated, thanx

Good grief. Um, nevermind. If you want to buy in Jones Cove buy in Jones Cove. But as for me, I won't be buying there. If you buy there and things don't work out, don't be surprised. No one is trying to scare you, honest, we are scared ourselves (at least I am). I don't mean to sound sarcastic and I am not trying to offend you, but you seem to want someone on here to tell you a wonderful story about that area; you will be hard pressed to get that. From what I have seen you have gotten the truth as the folks know it.

Sorry to get off topic...again, but
[quote=KnoxBrian;1301421]Wasn't Deliverence filmed in Polk county near Copper Hill and Ducktown?
I hate to get back to the "Deliverance" angle again, but it was actually filmed in Tallulah Gorge in Tallulah, GA and on the Chattooga River dividing SC and GA. Although, the surroundings are as beautiful as they are in TN. Thankfully, it was a fictional story.
Sorry to butt in with this off-the-thread comment, but it seems to keep coming back.
No matter what the reference, I think we are all looking for the opinions of those who know various areas. Then, we can make of it as we wish. I'll stick to Blount and Knox counties.

thank you to all for the advice on the area of Jones Cove. While it looks nice and all in the daylight as a person not living in Tennessee yet, trust what is said here.We have definately ruled out the area.

Hey. i do not live in jones cove and never have. but i do have family who has been there for 20 years on 5 different pieces of land. the biggest problem any of my family has had was the neighbors dog coming over and exciting her own dogs. she said a few times her neighbors grandson was playing his car stereo too loud after dark and she had to call over there and tell them to please have him turn it off. It is beautiful land out there. Quiet and serine. if u have elementary school kids, my cuz says that jones cove elem school is not all that great. but that is the ONLY negative thing i have ever heard from there. just thought i'd weigh in with my opinion too...thanks. and good luck
