We used ABF UPack. It was less than 2500 for a full pup (28 foot trailer) that they transported from KC to Knoxville and then stored for about 6 weeks. We had to load and unload, but I thought it was a great deal.
They are very professional and I would recommend them to anyone.

What a great idea, mjb62676. I just checked them out on their free estimator for our trip up to Knoxville from the Atlanta area. They apologized that they couldn't help us because they accept customers who have 350 miles or more to move. Drat!
Great website, though, for anyone moving further than a couple hundred miles. $2500 for moving plus a 6 wk. storage is excellent.

I'm moving from Florida to Seymour and we have rented a truck and hubby will drive it but we have movers coming to load it for us and then we have movers coming to unload it when we get there, it was the cheapest way to go and after all the stories about moving companies and the rip offs I was afraid to hire any, this way I only can blame us if something goes wrong, lol. We are moving in Sept.

Another good idea!
Do you mind if I ask if your loaders and unloaders are a national company, gailli? That sounds like a very good idea. I wouldn't mind getting a quote for the same kind of move.
We definitely want to save as much as we can on our move as well. I suggested to my husband that we sell everything and just move. Then, he reminded me that we would just have to buy everything new when we got to Knoxville. Oh, yeh.

I've used a company called Labor Ready, both in Knoxville and L.A., and found them to be very reliable in both regions. They're national and have two locations in Knoxville. I believe they are $15/hr per worker and require a four-hour minimum. I recently used one of their workers to help unload bookcases, which took less than an hour, so the guy did handyman projects around the yard for the other three hours. He was great-- and they're bonded!

Thanks, goodbyehollywood, for that information. I checked out Labor Ready's website and they have locations all over the country, including our small town of 25,000 just north of Atlanta. There are 5 listed in the Miami, FL area, suzycue.
That would be a boon for anyone actually, to have a day's help with packing and loading & and then to be on the other end of the move to unload. I would guess that part of the move is the hardest and pretty expensive.
We are getting so many options here; something is going to be the right fix for the "big move" for anyone following this thread. I think several of these options are doable for us and I hope for suzycue, too.

You're welcome! I hope it helps!
Professional packers charge $25, $35 and up, and while they are certainly efficient, you can get twice as much help with Labor Ready. As long as you show them how you want things done, they do just fine.

Has anyone considered trying to use firefighters to load and unload your truck, trailer or POD type units? Haven't pursued this myself yet but a friend said he was able to recruit firefighters to help on both ends.
Logic is firefighters are trained to carry heavy items up and down steps and many of them work extra jobs for the extra income. They are also a reliable group.
