Hi Everybody,

I just discovered this forum today and I'm wildly impressed with the knowledge and friendliness.

Quick Back story:
I'm a firefighter in the Metro-Detroit area and since April I've been going through the hiring process for Knoxville Fire Department. Nothing is set in stone and I'm not trying to count my chickens before they hatch, but I'm keeping positive about the whole thing. I've been looking at apartments and places to live. Every time I've visited Knoxville for the tests and interviews, I've loved the area.

My girlfriend works as an assistant event planner for a local Detroit Hospital doing fundraisers and such. So my question is this, does anyone know of any organizations, companies, people, or groups that do event planning or are
involved with it (weddings aside — But, work for Hospitals, non-profit, UT involvement, sororities preferred). A google search always brings up weddings, so I wanted to move beyond that and talk with the people.

Hypothetically, if I get the job and move down, It's a daunting request to ask someone to move with you without some sort jobs prospects. So any information people have would be great.

Thank you all

Well, there's this but I'd also check with places like the convention center. http://www.knoxplanning.com/Knox_Planning/Event_Planning.html (broken link)
Oh. And I hope you get the firefighter position. Knox rocks. Period.

Wow, well, i can attest to the last part. My g/f (at the time) got a job here at Ijams Nature Center. She move up in October of 2008. I had a great job in Tampa, but no job here. I had one interview set up with a company and moved here at the end of November. I got the only job i had the interview for 3 weeks later. I was very nervous forawhile, but it worked out. I don't suggest that for everyone (or anyone else, for that matter, lol). We are now married and love it here.

Good luck!

Check out Positive Approach in Johnson City. They're expanding into Greeneville and if you guys lived in east Knox or Jeff City, it would be an okay commute at least for a while.

Just a tip, don't have to take it. Good luck
