Has anyone recently had their propane tank filled? What is the current price per gallon in the Knoxville area, if you know? Thanks so much!

It is by the gallon here (at least all of the places we take ours) and it is around $2.50/gallon plus tax.

Here in NJ it's sold in pounds, not gallons...we have 100 lb tanks attached to the house, and 20 lb tanks for the grill.

Do they sell it by the gallon in TN?

Just bringing it up to make sure it's being compared apples to apples...and to try to figure it out myself for when we move down next year.

Most places a few years ago started putting ~18# into a 20# tank due to safety reasons....but never lowered the price....

100 lbs of propane liquid = 100/4.22 = 23.697 gallons of liquid

.

We actually had our source refuse to weigh the tank the other day. they automatically charge for a "full tank" even if it is half full already. talk about a scam.

We just had our home propane tank filled today so my prices are hot off the press. It was $2.999 a gallon with tax included I guess because it wasn't listed on there but there was a regulatory compliance charge of $9.30.

It sounds pretty much right if you check on prices around the country.

Propane Prices, Find the latest propane prices. | Propane Prices (closest states NC and VA are listed at just over $3)

This Week In Petroleum Note the top right hand graph with current pricing for the USA.

Some states also have rates up for various fuels: Propane Price Surveys (http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=eoeeaterminal&L=3&L0=Home&L1=Energy%2C+Uti lities+%26+Clean+Technologies&L2=Home+%26+Auto+Fue l+Price+Information&sid=Eoeea&b=terminalcontent&f= doer_fuels_propane&csid=Eoeea - broken link)
