Boomsday is the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Last year was my first year in TN and first year to go. It was fun but this year I'll know the "ropes". Will bring lawn chairs and picnic and maybe some games. We got there about 3 p.m. last year and it was crowded by 4.

Boomsday is TONS of fun!! Get there early, stake out your place on the outskirts of the crowd, set up your chairs, and then go down and enjoy the vendors and entertainment for a little while. Just remember to leave yourself plenty of time to walk back to your spot, as it gets very crowded almost instantaneously. The only bad things were the disgusting porta potties and the long wait on traffic after the fireworks were over. But great atmosphere and fireworks, something everyone in the area must do once!

It is the best fireworks display I have ever seen in my life! I have been 4 times, we go just for the fireworks and sneak in (well as much as possible) the back way on the other side of the Gay street bridge. I timed it the last time I was there (about 5 years ago) and the fireworks lasted almost a full hour...52 minutes of the most awesome fireworks I have ever seen.

Cool It's time for BOOMSDAY in Knoxville

This Sunday, September 2nd is Knoxville's 20th annual Boomsday Labor Day weekend street fair/party and spectacular fireworks display.

Starting at noon on Sunday, downtown Knoxville becomes one giant party with food from 30 vendors, amusement games and rides, exhibits, childrenís activities and inflatable area, and a community stage with some of the regionís best young athletes and performers. And of course there will lots of great music with several venues located throughout the city.

Best of all; attendance, including the fireworks spectacular, is absolutely FREE!

The crowd last year was estimated at over 325,000!

The finale is an enormous fireworks display, reported to be the largest Labor Day weekend fireworks show in the US.
