Hello. I will be moving out towards West Knoxville in the next few weeks.

I've talked to a few people and it seems like the general consensuses is that US Cellular provides the best coverage in East Tennessee.

T-Mobile provides a $60/month non-contract voice/txt/data which is much better than $80/month + 2 year contract (US Cellular).

I will likely be in the following areas: West Knoxville, Downtown Knoxville, and Oak Ridge. What is T-Mobile's service like it these areas? Anything to worry about? Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

I like Sprint coverage and haven't had any problems. By the way, I don't know about Oak Ridge - although I suspect it would be fine - but coverage is good in Knoxville. The only time people seem to have issues is in the Smokies, which is understandable. I would think the Cumberlands would also have the same challenges.

In the areas you mentioned you shouldn't have any trouble. I've never used T-mobile there myself but I've not heard any big complains from any providers in downtown knox, west knox, or oak ridge. I'd go with them for a $20 monthly savings or whoever is cheapest, especially if you already have a T-mobile phone.

As hiknapster mentioned, Sprint is really good and they're who I have now. You should also check out the Boost and Virginmobile prepaid plans which may be cheaper and run through the Sprint network.

And I would agree and somebody will eventually say, Verizon and US Cellular coverage are very good, but it is more difficult to find a less expensive plan with those providers.

Excellent point about pre-paids. I've had my daughter on Virgin Mobile since January and I love it. I pay $45 a month for 1,200 talk minutes plus unlimited web and text. As Trevor pointed out that's on the Sprint network. Great coverage.

I currently pay $30 for unlimited data/SMS (with no caps) on T-Mobile. You should do just fine in much of western and downtown Knoxville. I don't know about Oak Ridge, but I suspect that you might lose services in certain locations if you are on or near the massive government-owned properties. Knoxville is one of T-Mobile's newest cities. They recently upgraded 3G to 4G.

EDITED: check the coverage map: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx
