I'm considering relocating to Knoxville and am looking to continue my current career path. I'm currently a marketing analyst for a Fortune 500 company with 6 years of experience. I've searched the typical job search websites, so am more interested in seeing if any of you have personal contacts or suggestions for local companies to contact. Telemarketing field is not desired. Email address is in my profile. Thank you!

Marketing jobs are very, very competitive in Knoxville. UT has a fine marketing and advertising program, and many grads want to stay in Knoxville. You will be competing against UT undergrads and MBAs who have local connections in a city where connections matter.

I'm not saying you can't do it-- of course, you can do it-- but I would recommend lining up something before you come. But you won't find many Fortune 500 companies in Knoxville, you won't find a lot of marketing jobs and you won't find the best jobs advertised. Connections. That's how it's done here. Good luck!

Yep, I've read comments similar to yours before (must be true!)...which is why I'm starting to look ahead of time. Despite the current housing market, I'm interested in working for a homebuilder, developer or large real estate firm. Commercial real estate also interests me. Hopefully someone in one of those industries can chime in. Thanks!

I wouldn't count on getting a marketing job in the Knoxville area. Nashville is flooded with marketing jobs and not just music industry. Nashville is becoming the hub of the southern US auto industry and other industry. You could do well there and good homes are still affordable vs incomes.

I really think you're picking the wrong time to do anything in real estate. Commercial is holding up ok in Knoxville but I since residential is tanking I think there will be realtors making the transition to try to stay a float for a little while longer and thus more competition for you. Again, so much in this town is about good ol boy connections and politics, locals tend to get the go over outsiders.

Good luck to you.
