This is a great thread. On my home state board, you would be surprised at how many urge folks to move here without a job. Sorry, but I would not even move a county away (never mind several states) without a job.
When we move, we fully intend to rent for a year until we find the right location. It might even take us longer to find that spot. We're hoping to find our new town somewhere between Knoxville and the KY border. but we will also be checking out other areas.
I think of the posters on here as my new neighbors I will have after we move. Just knowing many of you will be closer to us makes me feel like I have friends in TN waiting for us.

AlisonL,
Please understand that this board is made up of many clandestine realtors incouraging relocation at any cost. They don't care what happens to you after you buy, can't find a job, need to move? They win again, sell your house to someone else. Constant relocation is a win/win. The key is to keep selling houses, who cares about the details. Sell, sell, sell at all costs!
If you're looking near TN/KY border, Springfield TN, Portland TN, and Franklin KY are nice. In Eastern TN/KY, Jellico TN and Williamsburg KY are choices with Williamsburg being the better choice do to actually having stores, jobs, etc. Overall my pick would be Springfield, small town feel, close to Nashville and Clarksville.
Best of luck!

Pdq, I hate to sound naive - okay, so I am naive - but I thought that real estate agents had to identify themselves as a REA.
Are there rogue REA posters? I guess some of us have a lot to learn all of the time. Thanks for bringing me back down to earth.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if there are clandestine realtors in here. But whether or not there are more in the Tennessee forum than in other forums is doubtful.

What's the point in being clandestine? Wouldn't it be hard to drum up business that way? Hmmm... though come to think of it, I have gotten DMs from realtors, so maybe some do have a stealth approach.
But I'm not a realtor. I'm really, really not.

I don't think you are. Nor do I think that SmokyMtnGal or Gemthornton is, either. There. I said it.

Thanks Hik!
I am not a realtor. I do love homes and have a "thing" for different types of architecture, decorating, etc. I also love to move! (weird, I know) I did find this website/message board while searching for tips on help in selling my home(s); this site came up on a Google search. My house was listed with a realtor but I wanted to do anything and everything I could to help it sell. Most of my early posts were exclusively in the Real Estate forum. After the one house sold (the other doesn't even get lookers ) I didn't/don't feel the same sense of urgency regarding Real Estate and could "branch out" and visit other areas of the boards.
For now I am enjoying this board. I am sure I will move on sooner or later.
