Default Why do I feel like I'm the only one sweating in this TN heatwave?

Its gotten to point of embarrassment the minute I step outside to walk to car I start dripping sweat. Of course I pour sweat at the gym and leave a trail on floor, I drive in car with a/c blasting & still sweating. Go in grocery store and work up a sweat just pushing the cart around casually. Today I was in Walmart and had to zoom from one end of store to other then back again because I forgot to get something, so I'm standing in line feeling the sweat trickling down my back, down back of my neck and finally several streams start pouring down from my forehead...yet I see other women in full face makeup all dolled up looking nice not even sweating despite wearing 3 piece polyester pantsuits & having longer and thicker hair than I. Heck I don't even see the men sweating and many of them I know work outdoors, so they should be sweating. I gave up on wearing makeup this summer as foundation just melts off and eye shadows runs in my eyes. How are all you other women not sweating in this 100+ deg weather? I'm embarrassed to even be seen in public now because there is always sweat streaming down my face and my clothes are always damp with despite having a/c in car and home. If I even stir much at home, like vacuuming, I start pouring sweat. How do you gals do it? Is there something medically wrong with me?

That's a good question for your doctor. Excessive sweating is, at least, an embarrassment in social situations...but it could be symptomatic of bigger issues. Ask your primary care physician about it.

One trick I've learned is to rub a little hand sanitizer on the back of my neck. As the ethyl alcohol evaporates, it relieves the heat - if only temporarily.

HI Wembley, I've been asking myself the same question.
The other girls at work seem fine, while I am seating my ass off! This is inside, with A/C!!
Some of the girls are younger than I and much heavier, too.

Well, I'm 53 and almost under weight... BMI 18.5 so I have no insulation (against the heat)
Same with you?

That's all I got. Let me know if you figure it out!

I sweat when I vacuum LOL. Most days, the humidity has been low, it increases in the evening. Now today it's supposed to be 60% so I will be sweating. In the mornings, it seems coffee increases my sweating a bit.

That sounds like me. If it goes over 75, I'm already too hot. Since I'm retired I stay indoors more in the summer and usually get a haircut to keep the hair off my neck. I don't wear make-up. Are you taking any medication that makes you perspire?

coffee
menopause
alcohol
spicy food
smoking
antidepressants
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
blood pressure medications
cancer treatments
some diabetes drugs
pregnancy
Too much Vitamin K
self tanner, sunscreen
overactive thyroid

Wembley, are you in your 50's? It sounds like hot flashes from menopause/peri-menopause. BEEN THERE! And I feel for you. Talk to your GYN if it is disrupting your life. I was at the point where I couldn't sleep even from waking up from the hot flashes multiple times a night. Certain things can aggravate it, like LauraC lists above.

If you're not in your late 40's/50's, it could be a medication issue again as LauraC lists or even a food sensitivity thing. It sounds weird, but red wine makes me hot/sweaty.

Wembley:

I am going through the same thing. I am 53 and my Doctor said I am just starting Menopause but my Doctor refuses to prescribe medication for it as it can cause breast cancer.

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and my nightgown and hair was soak en wet. I have central air and have a fan blowing on me at night. I go from a heat wave to a freezing chills back and forth all night.

I plan on seeing another Doctor several Counties away at a larger Hospital to see if she can help me.

By the way I am from Pennsylvania and we are getting hit with the same heat wave as you. Not as bad- but my hubby and I plan on relocating to TN since he just retired.

As long as you are not going through menopause, you should be able to handle it.
